Twelve Australian Craftsmen
By Patricia Thompson.
An incredible survey of 12 Australian craftsmen and women, of the golden years of the 60’s and early 70’s, a-la The Artist Craftsman in Australia. They are ceramicists, weavers, jewellers, silversmiths, embroiderers and glassblowers and they are pictured here at work in the studio. Let’s name names! Roll call: Les Blakebrough, Mona Hessing, Joan Campbell, Pru Medlin, Darani Lewers & Helge Larsen, Marea Gazzard, Heather Dorrough, Peter Rushforth, Elizabeth Vercoe-Grieb, Matcham Skipper and Milton Moon. These may not be famous names, but their works are sophisticated, revolutionary and above all, uniquely Antipodean.
