Tom Wood: People
By Tom Wood.
Edited by Jurgen Kisters and Thomas Zander.
“He makes Martin Parr look like a formalist.”
So said the New Yorker’s inimitable Vince Aletti of instinctive Irish photographer Tom Wood. For more than 30 years, Tom Wood has primarily operated under one theme - recording the people of Liverpool and Merseyside; on buses, in clubs, at the shops and wherever else they might be found. There are sweaty embraces on the dancefloor, old women wearing coats at the beach, insolent teens against brick walls and young mothers cradling infants in the summer heat.
In publishing this book, Wood personally selected each image from his archive of negatives. The level of genuine care for his subjects is abundantly clear. This signed first edition of People also includes text contributions from Lewis Biggs, former Director of the Tate Liverpool.
