The Years of Bitterness and Pride

FSA Photographs 1935 – 1943

Compiled and published by the Farm Security Administration (FSA)

An incredible, historical document, this flawlessly-titled photobook about the American people and where and how they lived during the great depression is a masterpiece of photojournalism. With photographs by Walker Evans, Ben Shahn, Dorothea Lange, Marion Post-Wolcott, Carl Mydans and others – some of which served as inspiration for Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath – it’s an affecting publication to say the least, and one which genuinely illustrates the resilience and power of the human spirit.
