Some Women by Robert Mapplethorpe

Edited by Terry Reece Hackford with introduction by Joan Didion.

Isabella Rossellini. Grace Jones Sigourney Weaver. Patti Smith. Sandra Bernhard. Brooke Shields. Dianne Wiest. Cyndi Lauper. Kathleen Turner. Yoko Ono. Just ‘some women’.

Among one of the final projects Mapplethorpe undertook prior to his death in 1989, Some Women collates 86 of his late-period portraits of women both famous and unknown, adolescents and grande-dames. Perhaps less subversive than his earlier work, this elegant collection nevertheless affirms the artist’s indispensable status, many of these images having been published for the very first time.
