Rosey Grier's Needlepoint for Men
This is the first and only book we've come across about Needlepoint for men, by a man. And what a man! Rosey Grier has quite a story - a former pro American football player, he was once bodyguard to Robert F. Kennedy and was guarding the senator's wife Ethel Kennedy the night RFK was assassinated. In fact he was able to take control of Sirhan Sirhan's gun and subdue the shooter! Later in his career he became a singer (recording his biggest hit with Bobby Womack), and was even a guest voice-over on an episode of The Simpsons. CV aside, what's so incredible about the book is Grier's stereotype-smashing pursuit in promoting "the gentle arts" to even the most macho of men. Of course, these are the kinds of men who need these kinds of hobbies the most!
In his words: "I try to turn other guys on to needlepoint wherever I go -- from the dude sitting next to me on a place to the guy working behind the scenes on a movie set. 'Smile all you want,' I tell them, 'but if you try it once, you'll keep on coming back for more', and that's the truth brother."
