"Less is More" – Mies van der Rohe
"Less is a Bore" – Robert Venturi
So begins the introduction to this very impressive reference book on Ornamentalism in postmodern design, art and architecture. Rejecting the minimalism of plain white walls, chrome and leather chairs, the aesthetic here is radical colours and decorative pattern overload. It shows interiors and objects that are humorous and practical, and above all visually arresting. Even though, it was published in the early 80's, this book is a real breath of fresh air from the monstrosity of today's IKEA furnished homes. A real treasure trove for artists and designers interested in the outrageous!
