Mud, Space & Spirit: Handmade Adobes
Text: Virginia Gray and Alan Macrae. Photogrpahy: Wayne McCall.
A beautiful publication, fully illustrated with (appropriately enough) sepia-toned photographs of adobe hippie homes in the Southwest desert. No form of architecture could be more organic, more handmade than these mud-formed structures. And while there’s talk of the building process, it is not a how-to instructional reference.
From the intro: “The techniques of adobe building are well documented in other books. This one was first conceived as a simple portrayal of individual imaginations working with mud; a fantasy book for readers locked in urban life, or an encouragement to freer spirits.”
