Georgia O'Keeffe at Ghost Ranch
By John Loengard.
A beautiful book of austere and contemplative photographs of George O’Keeffe at home in New Mexico. Composed in order to record “a day in the life” from sunrise to sunset, Leongard’s photos show a grand, solitary woman of the desert amidst her daily rituals. But to call it a study would be putting it dryly. So much of her spirit is captured in these stark portraits and still lifes (her weathered hands brushing against a sun-bleached skull, a collection of clean brushes against a finished painting…) it’s a collection more akin to a powerfully mythologizing portrait.
