Our Kind of People: American Groups and Rituals
By Bill Owens.
This book! How can we possibly praise it as highly as it deserves? In the mid 70's Bill Owens (a photographer best known for his portraits of suburban domestic scenes) documented every type of group activity you can think of – from college frats, shriners and country clubs to cub scouts, community associations and anti-abortionists. And that's not even a quarter of it! It's a fantastically voyeuristic look at the lifestyles of suburbanites of the era, and their eccentric, too-much-fun (except the anti-abortionists) group rituals.
