A Bottle of Notes and Some Voyages
by Germano Celant, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen.
Claes Oldenburg’s work was profound in an idiosyncratic, conceptual nature, but also exhausting and witty. This exhibition catalogue is more than a catalogue – it offers unusual insights into Claes’ working methods, from ideas through sketches, small and large models to finished sculptures. Broken down into projects such as Screwarch, Blasted Pencil, The Haunted House and Cross-Section of a Toothbrush. It his models that bring the most inspiration, as maquettes “set a stage in a world of hypotheses and dreams”. So many artists understand this, that a model allows for impossibilities. As Germano writes in his introduction – the models are “..located at the intersection between desire and research”. Germano Celant frequently worked with Claes and Coosje – the Ultimate Art Power couple.
Each book is dense with drawings, photographs, notes, and research. Each book in this collection is a collector’s item for this reason.
