A Violent Life

A Violent Life by Pier Paolo Pasolini

By Piero Paolo Pasolini.

Originally published in 1959, this novel by the Italian film director and poet, Pasolini, can be seen as an uncanny fictional chronicle of the author's death foretold. This book chronicles the life and death of Tommaso, a street kid who grows up in the slums not far from tourist Rome, and who resort to crime and prostitution to get what he wants. Populated by pimps, petty thieves, desultory gangs who act against a backdrop of poverty and political turbulence between fascists and communists, it seems an interesting footnote to Pasolini’s murder by a young Italian male street-type.
